Urinary disorders and incontinence: consultation in Rabat
Urine leakage, sudden urges, difficulty emptying the bladder or recurrent infections: urinary disorders affect both men and women and impair quality of life. Trained in neuro-urology, Dr Najib Abakka carries out a thorough assessment in Rabat, including urodynamic testing when needed, to identify the cause and offer suitable treatment.
Conditions we treat
- Stress and urge urinary incontinence
- Overactive bladder (frequent, urgent need to urinate)
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- Neurogenic bladder (neuro-urology)
- Pelvic organ prolapse in women
- Urethral stricture
When should you see a urologist about urinary problems?
- Leaking urine when exercising, coughing or with sudden urges
- Very frequent urination, day and night
- Burning on urination or infections that keep coming back
- Difficulty urinating or a weak stream
- A feeling of heaviness or a bulge in the vagina
- Urinary symptoms linked to a neurological condition
Assessment and urodynamic testing
The consultation includes a detailed history, sometimes supported by a bladder diary, and a clinical examination. Depending on the case, urine analysis, ultrasound, uroflowmetry, cystoscopy or urodynamic testing complete the assessment. Urodynamic testing measures how the bladder and urethra work during filling and voiding.
Treatments offered, depending on the indication
- Pelvic floor rehabilitation and behavioral advice
- Medication for overactive bladder
- Mid-urethral sling (TVT/TOT) for stress urinary incontinence
- Botulinum toxin injection into the bladder for neurogenic bladder
- Sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse
- Internal urethrotomy for urethral stricture
Frequently asked questions
Can urinary incontinence be treated?
Effective solutions exist in most cases. Treatment depends on the type of leakage: pelvic floor rehabilitation and medication are often offered first, and surgery such as a mid-urethral sling may be considered for stress incontinence.
What is a urodynamic test?
It is a test that records, using a thin catheter, the pressures in the bladder and urethra during filling and then voiding. It is not very painful and guides the treatment of complex urinary disorders.
Should you see a urologist for recurrent urinary tract infections?
Yes, especially from 4 episodes a year, in men, or with fever. The urologist looks for a contributing cause (stone, obstruction, poor bladder emptying) and proposes a prevention strategy.
